NNELS – The National Network for Equitable Library Service provides services and collections to users throughout Canada and is fully funded and supported by the province. Collections contain books, magazine and newspapers in accessible formats for anyone who has a print disability. Simply put, a print disability is a learning, physical or visual disability that prevents a person from reading conventional print. Print disabilities, also known as perceptual disabilities, include three broad categories of people who require accessible formats. Individuals who have:
• a severe or total impairment of sight, hearing, or the inability to focus or move one’s eyes
• the inability to hold or manipulate a book
• an impairment relating to comprehension such as Dyslexia
CELA – Centre for Equitable Library Access is a public library service for Canadians who have difficulty reading print due to a learning, physical or visual disability. CELA provides access to books, magazines and newspapers in a variety of formats including audio, accessible eBooks and braille. Professionals supporting clients with disabilities or educators supporting students with print disabilities can receive free access as well. Contact your library for information.
Large Print Books – Our libraries offer a variety of titles and authors in large print format.
Large Print Rotation – Three times a year, the Gimli Library receives a rotation of different large print books in categories of fiction, non-fiction, biography and western.
Audiobooks – Our libraries offer a variety of audiobooks for your enjoyment.
